Fossil Creek Little League

Season FAQ

1. How do I register?

Before registering, please enter your home or school address into the League Finder tool on the Little League website.

  • Inside Fossil Creek boundaries: Create an account and click the REGISTER icon.
  • Outside Fossil Creek boundaries (League Age 8+): Please email us for options.
League Age Information: League age is determined using the Little League Age Chart/Calculator for the current year.

Fall Season Note: We use the following year’s Age Chart during Fall. Since this chart is typically not available until after our season begins, please add one year to the result provided by the calculator or the results on the chart.

2. What documents do I need to bring?

If your player is new to Fossil Creek Little League, you will need to upload a scanned copy of your players birth certificate, for age verification, during registration.

3. Are there any additional forms required?

Yes. Every season, a new or updated Medical Release Form is required. This form provides basic medical information for your player’s coach. It does not require a physician’s signature.

4. When are tryouts?

Little League does not hold formal tryouts. All players are placed on a team. However, we conduct a Player Skills Assessment, also known as “The Look,” to help coaches evaluate players for drafting purposes.

  • Divisions Participating: Coach Pitch 2, Minors, and Majors.

  • Dates & Times: Posted on our Events Calendar.

  • Juniors & Seniors: May also have a Look depending on roster needs. Information will be provided closer to the registration deadline.

5. When and where are practices and games?

  • Practice schedules are set by your player’s Head Coach.

  • All games are scheduled at Northwest Community Park.

  • Game schedules:

    • Coach Pitch 2, Minor, Major, Junior, Senior: 12 games

    • Tee Ball, Coach Pitch 1: 10 games

  • Games are held:

    • Weeknights: Typically 6:00 PM

    • Saturdays: As early as 9:00 AM

    • Sundays: Occasionally used for rainout makeups, pending coach approval

Note: In recent seasons we have not been able to reschedule all rainouts due to field conditions, field closures, additional inclement weather and coach/player availability. To help this situation we will use Tuesdays and if needed Thursdays to play two games per field during the week for Coach Pitch 1 & 2, minors and majors. How often this occurs will be determined by our final registration numbers and how many teams we have in each division. Junior and senior divisions may also have two games in one night if needed.

6. Is there any travel involved?

  • Coach Pitch 2, Minor, Major: May involve occasional travel to nearby leagues (e.g., Sabine Jarvis Little League, ~6 miles away).

  • Junior & Senior Divisions: While most games are at Northwest Community Park, interleague games with neighboring leagues will occur.

    • Senior Division Spring Season: Begins after high school season ends to avoid conflicts.

7. How are postponed games rescheduled?

  • Rainout games appear in the schedule as “Postponed.”

  • We make every effort to reschedule, considering:

    • Coach/player availability

    • Field conditions

    • Weather

Note: It is important to know that field conditions for use are not determined by Fossil Creek Little League rather the City of Fort Worth’s Park Maintenance Department. Fossil Creek Little League does not have authority to prep or repair the fields after adverse weather conditions.

League General FAQ

Q: There are several youth baseball leagues in the area. Why should I choose Fossil Creek Little League?

A: Fossil Creek Little League is the only league in the area affiliated with Little League International. Founded in 1939, Little League is one of the oldest and largest youth sports organizations globally, with over 200,000 teams in more than 80 countries. We are family- and community-oriented and strive to keep registration fees low despite being fully financed and operated by parents, sponsors, and volunteers.

Q: I have a busy schedule. When and where are practices and games?

A: We limit to a maximum of 3 events per week, typically 1 game and 2 practices. Coaches schedule practice times and locations and will contact you shortly after the coaches meeting. Games are usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday starting at 6:00 or 6:30 pm, and Saturdays starting at 9:00 or 10:00 am, mostly finishing by 5:00 pm. Wednesdays and Sundays may be used for rainout make-up games.

Q: We have played in other leagues and notice the rules seem different here. Why?

A: Little League rules differ slightly from PONY and Babe Ruth leagues. We use 60-foot base paths and do not allow "lead offs" until Junior level (age 13), giving pitchers more time to develop without focusing heavily on pick-offs.

Q: I think my child is ready to play in a higher division than their league age. What can I do?

A: While we recommend progressing normally to gain experience before new rule changes, you may request your child to advance to the next division. We suggest doing this in the Fall season when play is more instructional. Note that once your child plays up, they cannot move back down. To request advancement, email [email protected]. Online registration only allows registration based on league age.

Q: I don't think my child is prepared for the division of their league age. What can I do?

A: On a case-by-case basis, children may stay in a lower division. However, they will not be eligible for official Little League tournaments, including the World Series. If you believe this is best, email [email protected]. Online registration restricts division based on league age.

Q: I want my child to have the same coach as last year. What can I do?

A: Requests for a specific coach are only accepted for T-Ball and Coach Pitch 1. We do our best to honor these but there are rare exceptions. Coach Pitch 2 through Majors teams use a draft process, so coach requests are not possible. Multiple coaches help expose players to different strategies and techniques.

Q: It must take a lot of work to run a Little League. How can I help?

A: Running the league is a big effort! We rely entirely on registration fees, sponsorships, and volunteers. You can help with coaching, umpiring, concessions, and more. Email us at [email protected] if interested.

Q: How can I join the Fossil Creek Little League board of directors?

A: New board members are accepted annually at our July board meeting. Watch our website and Facebook for meeting details.

Q: I have multiple children that would like to play. Can I get a discount?

A: We offer discounts for families with 3 or more children. The first two registrations are full price; additional children receive a reduced rate. Online registration does not apply this discount automatically, so email us for a manual adjustment before paying.

Q: Fossil Creek is a member of Little League® International. Do you play in the World Series?

A: Yes! Fossil Creek participates in the Little League World Series tournament and the Jim Sundberg Tournament (Texas District 7). After Spring season, players are selected by coaches from Coach Pitch, Minors, Majors, and Juniors based on skill, work ethic, teamwork, and attitude to form tournament teams.

Q: Something has come up and we cannot participate in the season we are registered for. Can we get a refund?

Dropped Player:
- Prior to registration close: Full refund
- Up to 7 days after registration close: Full refund
- 8+ days after registration close: Refund minus $55 ($30 uniform + $25 admin fees)
- After first scheduled game: No refund
All requests must be emailed to [email protected].

Season Cancellation (Pandemic/Natural Disaster):
Fossil Creek Little League is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and all funds come from registrations, donations, and sponsorships. If a season is canceled due to a pandemic or natural disaster, an audit will determine refund amounts based on expenses to date. Financial records are public and refunds will be based on this audit. Refund requests must be submitted in writing via email.
